چکیده

With the advent of the Web along with the unprecedented amount of information coming from sources of heterogeneous data, Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is more useful and practical than ever, because this technology addresses important limitations of the systems that currently support users in their quest for information. In this paper, we will focus on the unique features of FCA for searching in distributed heterogeneous information. The development of FCA-based applications for distributed heterogeneous information returns a major gain.

Concept similarity and related categories in information retrieval using formal concept analysis

The application of Formal Concept Analysis to the problem of information retrieval has been shown useful but has so far lacked any real analysis of the idea of relevance ranking of search results. SearchSleuth is a program developed to experiment with the automated local analysis of Web search using Formal Concept Analysis. SearchSleuth extends a standard search interface to include a conceptua...

Using Concept Formal Analysis for Cooperative Information Retrieval

. The potentials of formal concept analysis (FCA) for information retrieval (IR) have been highlighted by a number of research studies since its inception. The growth of the web has favoured the emergence of new search applications. In this paper, we will focus on the unique features of FCA for searching in distributed information and for reducing the size of the set information. The developmen...

Analysis of a Vector Space Model, Latent Semantic Indexing and Formal Concept Analysis for Information Retrieval

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI), a variant of classical Vector Space Model (VSM), is an Information Retrieval (IR) model that attempts to capture the latent semantic relationship between the data items. Mathematical lattices, under the framework of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA), represent conceptual hierarchies in data and retrieve the information. However, both LSI and FCA use the data represen...

Systems vs. Methods: an Analysis of the Affordances of Formal Concept Analysis for Information Retrieval

We review previous work using Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) to build Information Retrieval (IR) applications seeking a wider adoption of the FCA paradigm in IR. We conclude that although a number of systems have been built with such paradigm (FCA in IR), the most effective contribution would be to help establish IR on firmer grounds (FCA for IR). Since such an approach is only incipient, we con...

Information Retrieval as Semantics Transformation

In this paper we present Information Retrieval as a semantics transformation problem. We describe a general theory for deriving concepts, and discuss 2 special cases: the vector model and the set model. The vector model leads to concepts derived by latent semantic indexing using the singular value decomposition. The set model leads to Formal Concept Analysis. We discuss the relation between the...
